A lot of Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson’s aides are likely to move to the opposing political party, the All Progressive Congress (APC) ahead of December 5 gubernatorial election as some are already resigning their appointments in his cabinet.
It was reliably gathered that some of the cabinet members who were peeved that the governor sidelined them in various committees he constituted for his re-election campaigns may be on their way out .
One of such persons who resigned yesterday was Dickson’s Special Adviser on Business Development, Mr. Barnabas Edure, who abandoned the cabinet but he is however yet to pledge his loyalty to any political party or affiliation.
Edure, a kinsman of Dickson and former two-time Chairman of Sagbama Local Government Area, was said to have resigned his appointment following alleged poor working condition.
Sources close to Edure, described as grassroots mobiliser, said the governor failed to fulfill most of the promises he made while appointing his aides.
One of the sources, who craved anonymity, said: “It is unbelievable that a man in the status of Edure who was once a commissioner in the Bayelsa State Independent Electoral Commission and who has many followers was appointed in Dickson’s cabinet without an office, an official car and an imprest.
“My friend has been enduring maltreatment in Dickson’s cabinet but the one he could not take was that the governor sidelined him in his re-election campaign. There is no way his exit will not affect the governor’s reelection”, a source stated.
The source, however, added that Dickson’s action might have stemmed from his belief that Edure is a friend to a stalwart of APC and former Managing Director, Niger Delta Development Commission, Chief Timi Alaibe.
He said the governor had not been well disposed towards Edure, since Alaibe, considered to be his linchpin, dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP for the APC.
But in his resignation letter dated October 28, Edure said his resignation was voluntary.
