Humphrey Nwosu Reveals Why He Can't Attend Abiola's Investiture

Chairman of the defunct National Electoral Commission Prof. Humphrey Nwosu won't be attending the post-humous investiture of Moshood Abiola because the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic.

Abiola was final week handed the award by President Muhammadu Buhari with June 12 additionally penciled because the nation’s Democracy Day.

However, Nwosu in a letter to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, recommended Buhari for the gesture and regretted that he wouldn't make the event.

“I thank His Excellency, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari and the Federal Government of Nigeria for recognising June 12 as Democracy Day and also (for) honouring the winner of June 12, 1993 presidential election, Chief M.K.O. Abiola,” the letter learn.


“Indeed, June 12, 1993 marked a turning level in Nigeria’s tortuous journey in direction of a democratic polity.

“It is an honour to the very hard-working women and men of the defunct National Electoral Commission beneath my management at this long-awaited recognition. I humbly commend this motion by the President.

“Undoubtedly, the democratic system of governance is one of the best, particularly for the multi-ethnic nation like ours. I thanks for constructing on the inspiration which my workforce and I laboured strenuously to determine and actualise on June 12, 1993.

“It is our hope that increasing the frontiers of democracy, of which all of the individuals of Nigeria, no matter ethnic group, will present financial, social and developmental advantages that may definitely make Nigeria a nice nation not solely in Africa however internationally.

“Certainly, the scheduled occasion on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 will rekindle the nationwide consciousness of all Nigerians for a higher nation.

“Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond my control, I will not be present at the investiture ceremony as I am outside the country. May God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria!”
