Lucas Digne has revealed that he has had no problems settling in at Barcelona and said that he was welcomed with open arms by the Catalan club.
The France international full-back was signed by Luis Enrique’s side from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, after he helped Les Bleus to the final of Euro 2016, and the 23-year-old is delighted to have the opportunity to play at Camp Nou.
“It’s better than my dreams,” he told Goal . “I have felt very comfortable both on and off the field with my new team mates, and they have welcomed me in an extremely nice way.”
The former Lille man may make his La Liga debut when Barca meet Real Betis on Saturday but he has already turned out for his new side, helping them to an emphatic two-legged Supercopa Espana success over Sevilla.
“It has been a fantastic start for me in Barcelona. I have already played two finals and won a trophy with my new club,” he added.
Digne grabbed an assist in the 3-0 second-leg victory, crossing for Lionel Messi to head home, and wants to build further on this early success.
“I will keep my focus on working hard at training to adapt myself to the style of Barcelona, and I really enjoy this way of playing football,” he continued. “The reception not only from my team-mates and the club staff but also from the fans has been incredible, and I have instantly felt at home. I can't thank them all enough.”
Indeed, such was the left-back’s enthusiasm to play for Barca, he returned from his holidays four days early to start training with the club.
It was a curtailed summer for the Frenchman, who was a member of the squad that lost agonisingly to Portugal in the final of Euro 2016 in Paris. Having already won 13 caps for his country, he is hoping for a long international career and believes playing for Barca will only help him.
“I love playing for Les Bleus,” he said. “Since I have only just turned 23, but already been a part of the squad for both a World Cup and the Euros, I hope it will be a long and great love affair.”
“Playing for Barcelona, which I consider the greatest club in the world, will surely make me a better player and therefore make me able to give more and more to Les Bleus. At 23, I’m focusing on my game right now but also on my development as a player, so this move to Barcelona is fantastic for me.”
