A slice of luck may be all that's standing between Atletico Madrid and their next piece of silverware, according to goalkeeper Jan Oblak.
Atletico missed out on the La Liga title by just three points last season, while they reached the Champions League final only to lose in a penalty shootout to local rivals Real Madrid.
Oblak made it clear that teams can't rely on luck alone to win trophies but agreed that Diego Simeone's men perhaps need fortune to shine their way if they are to claim a major title in the 2016-17 season.
"In the end, if you're fighting for the first place, of course you need a little bit of luck," Oblak told Goal.
The 23-year-old Slovenian is convinced Atleti will be ready to capitalise on any luck that comes their way this season.
"I'm sure that this season, again, we will have the possibility to win something," Oblak said.
Oblak and the rest of Atleti's squad arrived in Melbourne on Thursday ahead of their International Champions Cup match against Tottenham on Friday.
After almost a day's travel from Spain to Australia, Oblak was understandably tired but emphasised the importance of the pre-season tour.
"Every game in pre-season is really important to try to improve the tactics… when the season starts, you need to be 100 per cent sure of what you are doing, and these games are really good for that," he said.
Atleti will also play local club Melbourne Victory on Sunday.
