New Tottenham striker Vincent Janssen hopes to make the centre-forward spot his own at White Hart Lane, despite the presence of Harry Kane.

Janssen, who made his Spurs debut in a 2-1 loss to Juventus in the International Champions Cup on Tuesday, will most likely need to displace the reigning Premier League golden boot winner if he wants to start up front this season.

Kane scored 25 league goals for Tottenham last term but has not made the trip to Australia due to being given an extended break following his Euro 2016 campaign with England.

Janssen started up front in Melbourne, with Son Heung-min, Nacer Chadli and Tommy Carroll providing support, and, when asked after the game if he could play another position when Kane returns to action, he answered "we will see", with a coy smile.

The former AZ striker then added: "I have done it in my career but I prefer the striker position. I think that's my position.

"So for me, actually, it's the striker position."

Janssen was a revelation in the Eredivisie last season, scoring 27 goals in 34 matches for AZ in his first campaign in Netherlands' top division.

The 22-year-old reflected on his rapid rise that saw him move from Almere City in the Eerste Divisie to playing Juventus in the space of just over a year.

"I'm feeling good," he said.

"The training is different if you compare it to Holland, of course, it's much tougher but I'm getting used to it, so it's nice."

Janssen appeared slightly disappointed with his Spurs debut, however, as he struggled to produce many clear-cut scoring opportunities before being substituted in the 63rd minute.

"It was a difficult game. We pressed them a lot and it didn't always go well, and I think it was difficult for us in the first half," he said.
