Kano Commissioner Resignation Announced

Umar Haruna Doguwa has formally stepped down from his role as Commissioner for Water Resources in Nigeria's Kano State, with his resignation becoming effective on Tuesday, March 2, 2026. The announcement was made by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's spokesperson following the submission of Doguwa's letter on Monday.

The departure of Mr Doguwa from the Kano State administration marks another significant change within Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's cabinet. His formal resignation was tendered on Monday, March 2, 2026, and took effect the following day, as confirmed in a statement from Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Governor's spokesperson.

Wave of Departures

This latest resignation follows a series of exits from key governmental positions. Previously, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Special Services, Air Vice Marshal Ibrahim Umaru (rtd), along with Nasiru Sule Garo, the Commissioner for Special Duties, and Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofarmata, the Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, had also stepped down from their roles.

Governor Yusuf's Appreciation and Interim Appointment

Governor Yusuf expressed his gratitude to Mr Doguwa for his dedicated service to the state. During his year-long tenure leading the Ministry of Water Resources, notable advancements were made in the refurbishment of water facilities and the expansion of access to potable water across numerous communities.

Mr Doguwa's leadership was also credited with enhancing the institutional capabilities within the ministry and boosting overall service delivery. Wishing him well in his future endeavours, Governor Yusuf has directed Dr Ali Haruna Abubakar Makoda, the Commissioner for Education, to temporarily oversee the Ministry of Water Resources. This interim arrangement will remain until a permanent commissioner is appointed or redeployed.
