A man identified as Badaru Ibrahim Katsina has been formally arraigned before a Kano Magistrateβs Court on multiple charges, including alleged impersonation, defamation, cheating, causing harm, and obtaining money under false pretences. The case is currently being heard at Magistrate Court No. 21, Gyadi-Gyadi, presided over by Magistrate Hadiza Muhammad Hassan.
Upon having the charges read out in court, the defendant entered a plea of not guilty. Subsequently, his legal counsel submitted an application for bail. The court granted Katsina bail, stipulating that he must present either his ward head or a local imam to serve as a surety. This surety will be required to commit to a payment of β¦1 million should the defendant fail to appear for his court proceedings.
The core of the prosecutionβs allegations centres on the defendantβs purported fraudulent activities. It is claimed that Badaru Ibrahim Katsina illicitly opened a bank account using the name of popular singer Tijjani Gandu. Through this deceptive identity, he is accused of defrauding a man in Kebbi State of a substantial sum of β¦8 million. The fraud was allegedly perpetrated by falsely promising to arrange a musical performance for the victim.
The court has adjourned the case, with further proceedings scheduled for 12th November.
