Katsina State recently became the focal point of a significant religion event as an estimated three million followers of the Tijaniyya Islamic Sect, hailing from across Nigeria and various West and North African countries, convened for the 2026 Maulud celebration of Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass. The colossal gathering, organized by the "Majmaβu Ahbab Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass," took place at the Muhammad Dikko Stadium in Katsina, showcasing a profound display of faith and community.
Unprecedented Gathering Transforms Katsina
The organizing committee's chairman, Sheikh Muhammad Hadi-Balarabe, had projected an attendance of approximately four million guests from Nigeria's 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and neighboring African nations. This massive influx of visitors led to all hotel accommodations in Katsina metropolis being fully occupied, prompting many benevolent residents to offer their unoccupied homes as a gesture of hospitality. Many attendees, unable to secure hotel rooms, found solace sleeping within the stadium despite the chilly weather. By Saturday morning, the stadium was filled to capacity, with every available seat and pitch space occupied, and surrounding areas also densely packed with people. The dual carriage road leading to the venue, from the WTC roundabout to the Barhin roundabout, was similarly overflowing with participants.
Economic Boost and Spiritual Guidance
The grand event also created substantial economic opportunities for local traders. Vendors selling food, water, soft drinks, herbal medicine, clothing materials, and books experienced brisk business, catering to the needs of the immense crowd. Addressing the congregation, Sheikh Ibrahim Dahiru-Bauchi expressed gratitude to the Katsina State Government for hosting this historic occasion, offering heartfelt prayers for lasting peace, stability, and prosperity across the state, Northern Nigeria, and the country at large. Similarly, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi II, urged Muslims to steadfastly adhere to the commandments of their Creator. He further advised them to intensify their prayers for Allahβs forgiveness, emulate the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), pursue knowledge, and engage in entrepreneurial endeavors to foster self-reliance.
Leaders Emphasize Unity and Continued Prayers
Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State conveyed his appreciation to the organizers for selecting his state to host the 2026 Maulud, acknowledging the scholars' prayers for Katsina and national peace and stability. Governor Radda remarked that these prayers were gradually contributing to the return of peace in the state and encouraged their continuation for the overall betterment of both the state and Nigeria. Sheikh Muhammad Ibrahim-Nyass, representing his elder brother Sheikh Mahi Ibrahim-Nyass, offered prayers for the soul of the late revered Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman-Bauchi. He passionately called upon Muslims worldwide to foster unity, mutual love, and to firmly uphold the principles of the sect. A special collective prayer was also offered for Katsina, Nigeria General News, and its leaders, underscoring the spiritual and communal significance of the gathering. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported on this General event.
