Kebbi Boat Mishap: 14 Confirmed Dead In River Niger

A tragic boat mishap on the River Niger in Gumbi, Yauri Local Government Area, Kebbi State, Nigeria, has claimed the lives of 14 individuals, including 13 females and one child, after their vessel capsized while transporting a bride to her husband's home in Gwarzo.

The deceased were part of a group accompanying a bride to her husband’s house in Gwarzo, Ngaski Local Government Area of Kebbi State when the devastating incident occurred.

Abubakar Shu’aibu, the Yauri Local Chairman, informed Governor Nasir Idris about the tragedy, stating that over 100 people were aboard the boat when it capsized. He confirmed that 14 people, comprising 13 females and a child, were tragically killed.

Community Mourns Amidst Condolences

All of the deceased have since been buried in accordance with Islamic rites. Governor Idris extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and the entire populace of the Yauri Emirate, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of life.


A statement released by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ahmed Idris, conveyed Governor Idris’s appeal to the families of the victims to accept the incident with fortitude. The statement reminded them that nothing occurs without the divine knowledge of Allah, providing solace through faith.

It further reiterated a spiritual message: β€œGod does what He wants at the time He wants, and nobody has the right to question Him,” emphasising a call for submission to divine will in the face of such a profound loss.
