As full enforcement of the Lagos State Traffic Law commences in the state, the Lagos State Joint Task Force comprising operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and the Lagos State Task Force Unit on the Environment has arrested 98 motorists and impounded 105 commercial motorcycles popularly called β€˜Okada’ for flouting the laws.

Briefing newsmen at the weekend, the head of the Joint Task Force, Mr. Olatunji Disu, affirmed that the operation would be a continuous exercise by the combined team in order to ensure that road users fully comply with the State Traffic Laws and Regulations.

As stated by him, preliminary investigations by the police have shown that robbery and other nefarious activities on our highways by men of the underworld are aided by the use of motorcycles.

He said: β€œThis operation is embarked upon in order to ensure that sanity is brought back to the highways. This will in no small measure prevent traffic robbery and criminal attacks on innocent and law abiding motorists and commuters, which have become a menace in the metropolis.”

He noted that the law enforcement agencies would enforce total restriction of motorcycles on all unapproved routes and expressways in the state.

Disu stated the impounded motorcycles and their riders have been handed over to the Lagos State Task Force Unit on the Environment for necessary legal action, adding that the arrests were made during a special operation by the law enforcement agencies.
