Manchester United are set to seal the signing of Paul Pogba from Juventus for €110 million after Real Madrid dropped out of the race for the Frenchman.
Goal understands that United have always been in pole position to sign Pogba despite Madrid's admiration of him and Juventus hope to have the deal concluded before the end of the week.
Zinedine Zidane is a fan of his compatriot but Madrid are unwilling to match the world-record fee United will pay as well as meeting Pogba's salary demands.
The 23-year-old will earn upwards of €12 million a year at Old Trafford - a figure which would have put him above every Madrid player apart from Cristiano Ronaldo.
Pogba left United for Juventus in July 2012 at the end of his contract due to a lack of first-team football under then-Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
He has gone on to establish himself as one of the most highly-rated midfielders in world football, winning four Serie A titles in four seasons in Turin.
