Jose Mourinho has named Tyrell Warren and Axel Tuanzebe as two young stars who will get the chance to impress in Manchester United’s first pre-season friendly against Wigan Athletic.
United face the newly promoted Championship club on July 16 before jetting off on their pre-season tour of China.
With some of United’s players at the Copa America and Euro 2016, Mourinho admits he will be taking a look at some of United’s youth players for the friendly at the DW Stadium, and has already spoken to Nicky Butt, head of coaching at the club’s academy, about those who are well-poised to make an impact.
“The first game against Wigan is very important because I’m going to have some players I don’t know very well,” the United manager told MUTV.
"At Wigan I will be bringing guys like Tyrell Warren and Axel Tuanzebe.
"I don't know them well but I just trust Nicky Butt, John Murtough and the structure's judgement, obviously I’m going to work closely with them so I trust them, when they say we have a few players who, in a couple of years, can be first-team players.
“I have to work with them, I have to give them the chance to work with the first team, to know me, to feel me, to accelerate that process because that process will be in the academy but I can accelerate that process, so let’s go for it.
