The Nigerian Navy has expressed its readiness to open the road that leads to Majidun in Ikorodu as the members of the Lagos State House of Assembly has intervened in the matter.

Representative of the Navy, Commodore A.O. Adaji made the disclosure while giving clarification at the meeting between the Lagos State House of Assembly ad hoc committee set up to investigate the closure of the road, among other allegations.

Chairman of the committee, Hon. Rotimi Abiru, commended the Navy for restoring peace and order in the riverine route of the state.

Abiru noted that the activities of the illegal bunkers destabilized the growth of economy in the state and therefore implored the navy to keep up the good work, urging the navy and the people of Majidun to co-habit peacefully.

Responding, Commander NNS Beecroft, Commodore Adaji made it known that the primary assignment of the navy is to guard and protect the waterways running through Ishawo to Majidun to link other parts of Nigeria.

Adaji explained that hoodlums took over Majidun and stocked the commnity with petroleum products from illegal bunkering. This he said, is the reason why they barricaded the roads to stall the illegal activities.

Speaking for the community, the Oba of Majidun, HRH Jethrow Abejoye also acknowledged the peace and tranquility they have enjoyed for thirteen months since the arrival of the navy in the community, but implored them to open the roads to enable vehicular movement and easy access of heavy duty vehicles such as trucks, tippers and water tankers.

He said: “we appreciate the presence of the navy, but beg that they open up our roads to enable us do our usual business of buying and selling and this was what made the navy to open the road.”

Abiru applauded the navy for their combatant operations in all illegal bunkering points in the state.

He also made it known that the House is not passing judgement but on a mission to broker peace.
