President Muhammadu Buhari has stated that his administration decided to implement the Treasury Single Account (TSA) system so as to enthrone financial discipline and curb corruption in all its ministries, departments and agencies.

Buhari stated this during the 27th convocation ceremony of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), at the weekend.

President Muhammadu Buhari who was represented by the executive secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Julius Okojie, noted that the TSA was introduced for a good cause and the issues involved in its implementation are being addressed.

While appealing to the leadership of Nigerian universities to ensure prudence, accountability, transparency and delivery of value for money at all times, President Muhammadu Buhari promised that his government will endeavour to provide all the necessary support to universities to ensure that they begin to fulfil the roles for which they were established.

“I must at this point call on universities to be at the vanguard of the fight against corruption and eroded ethics, which constitute a major component of our social ills.”

“We must all endeavour as citizens and members of the academic community to enthrone the spirit of hard work, honesty and inspirational leadership which are the hallmarks of any citadel of learning.

“May I reiterate the ‘Zero tolerance to corruption’ adopted by this administration, as we are determined to lead by example. We shall obey our laws and shall be transparent, accountable, just, fair and demonstrate integrity in all our undertakings,” he stated.

Earlier in his address, the vice chancellor of the university, Prof. Adebiyi Daramola, noted that the responsibility of being productive and contributing to the development of the country lies on the new graduands through their expertise and professionalism.

His words: “Being certified worthy in character bestows on you the onus of all-time maintece of peace, good conduct and being your neighbour’s helper and supporter all the time. We need more peace, love and unity in this country. Our nation relies on people like you to be the change agents for national development.”

Also speaking, the chancellor of the university, His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr) Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu, the Emir of Bauchi, urged the graduands to be entrepreneurial and creative, and tap from vast natural endowments and economic resources available in the country.
