The new Kia Optima Sportswagon made its first public appearance at the Geneva Motor Show.

Kia’s first try in the wagon corner of the D-Segment is a very elegant execution of turning the Optima into an estate, that remains close to the Sportspace Concept with which it was first teased.

In Europe, the Koreans offer two petrol units and one diesel for the new Optima Sportswagon; the entry-level 163PS 2.0-litre petrol is joined by the firm’s new turbocharged 245PS 2.0-litre T-GDI engine, which is offered only with a six-speed automatic gearbox. Those seeking better economy better look at the 141PS 1.7-litre CRDi diesel unit, with Kia offering as an option their seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The new Optima Sportswagon offers 48lt more cargo capacity than the saloon for a total of 553lt with the rear seats in place. Exterior dimensions remain unchanged, with only the height slightly increased by 5mm.

Kia claims a high-quality experience in the cabin, with plenty of soft-touch materials, a state-of-the-art infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and high levels of soundproofing to make the Optima Sportswagon as comfortable as it gets.
