The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Zone C (South East) has expressed dismay over the kidnap of Channels Television Correspondent in Owerri, Imo State, Mr. Tope Kuteye in the early hours of Monday, April 11, 2016.

Reports say Kuteye was reportedly kidnapped at his residence in Owerri.

In a statement signed by the Vice-President and Secretary, NUJ Zone C, Comrade Christopher Isiguzo and Comrade Kenneth Ofoma respectively, the union condemned the kidnap of the innocent citizen and journalist who they said, is neither a politician nor a money-bag business man.

The union regretted that journalists who champion the battle for social change, accountability, transparency in governance and social justice don’t need to be victims of the vices they stand against.

It, therefore, pleaded with the abductors to release him unconditionally without further day and called on law enforcement agencies to secure the release of Kuteye soonest should his abductors hedge.
