Good news for crossover-hating, wagon-loving Porsche fans out there as it turns out the Stuttgart-based brand is planning to offer the shooting brake variant of the new Panamera on this side of Atlantic.
The news came straight from the mouth of Porsche’s US Chief Klaus Zellmer in an interview with AutoNews and while he didn’t reveal when exactly the new sports wagon is coming, he said to not expect it in 2017.
The second generation of the Panamera sedan will be the first to arrive, as it's going to be revealed in full in the Paris Motor Show, with sales to start in the US market at the beginning of 2017.
"We have to have some patience for [the wagon] to arrive in the U.S.," said Zellmer, CEO of Porsche Cars North America. "But we are confident that this car will be well received here, despite the fact that this country doesn't really like hatchbacks or wagons."
The second bodystyle of the new Panamera has already been spotted during development testing on the Nurburgring and will target a specific clientele that don’t want to buy an SUV, but need the extra practicality.
Porsche is also looking into offering a Panamera with five seats instead of the strict four-seat configuration that has costed the company a lot of customers in the US market. The new generation is expected to bring significant weight savings thanks to the brand-new MSB platform and to be powered by an also new family of turbocharged V6 and V8 engines. A plug-in hybrid version is also included, but it will be revealed at a later date.
