Players and enthusiasts coming for the 2016 Nigeria Cup are in for a pleasant surprise when they throng the Ikoyi Club for the Independence Day competition.
Already the organisers have started mobilizing resources for this edition, which is the 20th in the series of the weeklong golf tournament put in place to celebrate the nation’s Independence anniversary.
Chairman of the Nigeria Cup Organizing Committee, Bayo Alli, during the week revealed that the special one would deviate slightly from previous ones in terms of entertainment and actual play.
He appealed to Nigerians, especially members of Ikoyi Club and corporate bodies, for support, explaining that the plea became necessary because this year’s event would involve a substantial amount of money.
Alli assured members of the club, sponsors and corporate Nigeria an experience they will relish for a long time, adding: “A Nigerianised Nigeria Cup is what we will see come October 1.
“This year’s Nigeria Cup is going to be different in many ways if you look at the programmes we are working on. It will be for all Nigerians… it will be used to showcase what makes us Nigerians. We will showcase our fashion, food, art and every other thing that makes us unique.”
The 2016 Nigeria Cup, Alli enthused, will involve professional golfers who will compete in a full professional and amateur event, adding that the Pro-Am event will involve single handicap players.
