In a bid to ensure that maximum results accrue from its free education policy, the Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, has said that it will consider reviewing the policy.

Speaking through the Secretary to the State Government, Ismail Alli, Ajimobi made this disclosure over the weekend at the event marking the 21st year anniversary of Educare Trust, a youth-focused non-governmental organization based in Ibadan.

He described the birth of the Trust, whose major preoccupation is the running of youth-friendly centre, as nothing short of a brilliant venture a number of elites bought into in 1994.

He promised that the centre would be willing to share experience with groups in other parts of the country who are inclined to render such national service.

Ajimobi, who explained that the decision of the state government was informed by the unimpressive attitude parents are showing towards the education of their children, pointed out that the government was not impressed with the performance of students in external examinations.

He appealed to parents to continue to show more commitment in the care and development of their wards academic pursuit, contending that the lackadaisical disposition of parents’ to the education of children called for deeper concern.

He, however, affirmed that the state government remained committed to the restoration agenda in the education sector of the state, adding that government-owned schools in the state would no longer promote students to higher classes if they do not merit it.

Admitting that falling standard in the education sector was as a result of the failing infrastructures in schools, he maintained that the state had been responding to this by building model schools in all the senatorial districts of the state.
