Paul Merson has joked that Newcastle United’s new loan signing Kenedy could be the best full-back he’s ever seen – if he focuses more on football and less on body art.

The Sky Sports pundit has criticised the Brazilian - whose primary position is a left-winger - for the amount of tattoos he has.

The 21-year-old joined Newcastle from Chelsea earlier this week on loan until the end of season and is covered in tattoos. From ‘full sleeves’ to his girlfriend’s face on his ribs, the youngster has not held back on the body ink.

But Merson, who played for Arsenal and Aston Villa and is now a pundit for Sky Sports, is not impressed.

When asked about Kenedy, he told Sky Bet: “He’s smothered in tattoos. If he took as much time on the training pitch as lying down on the bed to have tattoos; he’d be the best full back I’ve ever seen. “

Kenedy moved to Chelsea from Fluminense back in June 2015 but has struggled to forced himself into the full team picture and has spent time out on loan. He headed to Watford in 2016 but failed to impress and succumbing to injuries.

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez wanted Kenedy in the summer but Chelsea did not sign off on the deal but has got his man this January and has highlighted his versatility as the reason why he signed him.
