The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday condemned the arrest of former Benue Governor Gabriel Suswam over insecurity within the state.
Suswam was reportedly arrested by Department of State Services (DSS) over his alleged reference to disaster.
Reacting, PDP’s spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan, mentioned the previous governor’s arrest was a part of Federal Government’s plot to silence opposition.
Ologbondiyan mentioned: “The depraved clampdown has began. Only yesterday, we have been made conscious of the arrest and detention of former Benue State governor, Hon. Gabriel Suswam, who has been saved incommunicado with out entry to his legal professionals, whereas the Federal Government will not be forthcoming with the main points of the explanations behind the arrest and detention.
“However, we all know that his arrest and detention is meant to place him out of circulation in order that he won't participate within the mega-meetings of our party deliberate for the North Central states.
“There are already fears that other opposition leaders and dissenting voices have been placed under watch and will be dragged in and framed up on security charges, so as to keep them out of circulation ahead of the elections.”
