Ekiti State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman, Chief Idowu Faleye, has been quizzed by the police allegedly over the dud cheque issued to pay the rent of the party’s state secretariat. Following a petition written by the owner of the building and former confirmed the developmenconfirmed the developmenPDP chieftain, Chief Ropo Adesanya, Faleye was interrogated in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday evening by a special police squad from the Force Headquarters, Abuja, before he was later released on medical grounds. The PDP owes N1.5 million rent and the cheque issued for payment was rejected by an old generation bank based in Ado Ekiti, the state capital. Confirming the development in Ado Ekiti yesterday, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Ekiti State, Alberto Adeyemi, said the officers were from the Force Headquarters, Abuja. As stated by sources, Faleye would have been taken to Abuja immediately after the interrogation but reportedly pleaded that he be released on health ground to receive medical attention and turn himself in on Tuesday next week after he might have been examined and certified fit by his doctor. But Faleye said he told the police officers that he knew nothing about the cheque which was not in his handwriting nor contained his signature. The embattled PDP chairman said those who signed the cheque in question during the heat of the crisis rocking the party in the state had now been expelled from the party. Denying being arrested or released on health ground, Faleye said he told the police officers that he was not part of the cheque issue, adding that the police said they would continue with investigations into the matter by interrogation all those involved in the issuance of the dud cheque. Trouble started in the party when a faction, which purportedly replaced Faleye with Mr Tunde Olatunde, claiming Faleye had resigned and no longer a signatory to the party account, issued a cheque for the rent but the cheque was rejected by the bank.
