Ramadan Food Aid Reaches 300,000 Borno Households

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has overseen the distribution of Ramadan food aid to 300,000 needy Muslim and Christian families across the 27 local government areas of Borno State, aiming to alleviate economic hardship during both Ramadan and the Christian Lenten season.

The initiative, launched in Maiduguri, seeks to provide crucial support to vulnerable residents facing economic difficulties. Governor Zulum highlighted the dual observance of the Christian Lenten season and Ramadan this year, emphasising that both Muslim and Christian households would benefit from this extensive exercise.

Comprehensive Distribution Strategy

Under the programme, each eligible family is set to receive a bag of rice, a bag of millet, and 10 kilogrammes of sugar. In addition to these provisions, thousands of extra bags of rice, millet, and sugar have been specifically allocated for distribution to elderly residents throughout Borno State, ensuring broader coverage for those most in need.

Ensuring Transparency and Accountability

Governor Zulum issued a stringent directive to members of the distribution committee, urging them to uphold transparency and fairness throughout the process. He explicitly warned against any misappropriation of the aid packages.

"These items are not for sale. They are not meant for your friends or family members who do not need them," Governor Zulum stated. "They are for the widow, the orphan, the internally displaced person, the farmer whose fields have not fully recovered, and the daily wage earner struggling to make ends meet. Any officer found diverting these items will face the full wrath of the law." This firm stance underscores the government's commitment to ensuring the palliatives reach their intended recipients.
