The 40-year-old posted on twitter her congratulations to the Aussie on Tuesday after she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for Lion.

'Congrats to @NicoleKidman on her #OscarNom for @LionMovi.
!! Great performance in a great film!'

Lion picked up six nods in total, including Best Picture, Adapted Screenplay, Cinematography and Score, as well as Best Supporting Actor for Dev Patel.

In the true story based on Saroo Brierley's A Long Way Home, Nicole plays the adoptive mother of a man who uses Google Earth to track down his birth family 25 years later.

While both ladies have plenty of Oscar experience, it is the first Best Supporting Actress nom for either of them

Fan: 'Congrats to @NicoleKidman on her #OscarNom for @LionMovi.

Reese took the Academy Award for Best Actress on her very first try, for 2005's Walk The Line.

She was nominated again in 2014 for Wild, but ultimately lost out to Julianne Moore for Still Alice.

Nicole also has one statuette, for her 2002 turn in The Hours; her two other noms were for Moulin Rouge in 2001 and Rabbit Hole in 2010, losing out to Halle Berry in Monster's Ball and Natalie Portman in Black Swan, respectively.

'Congrats @Ava on your much deserved #OscarNom for #13t.
!! Incredible documentary! Check it out on @netflix,' she wrote.

Last year the 44-year-old became the first black female director to have a film nominated for the Best Picture Award for Selma, although she was skipped over in the Best Director category.

Sadly Nicole's fellow nominee Octavia didn't get a message of support from Reese despite also being a co-star of hers.

However Witherspoon would probably scarcely believe the Oscar-winner had played 'Security Guard' in 2003's Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde.
