“The Leicester example will happen more and more,” Wenger said. “For sure. Because the English clubs will get £100 million from television next year. They can buy anywhere in the world what they want. So I think the fact that the league will be more level is a necessity.”
Wenger denied that Leicester’s league position was a factor in Arsenal’s decision to poach the club’s scout Ben Wrigglesworth last month**.**
“We try to get the best people in every department and the Leicester scout was on our list,” Wenger said. “Not just because they are top of the league, but because we have heard about his quality and we want the best.”
Leicester’s scouting system is part of the reason for their success, having picked up Jamie Vardy from non-league Fleetwood Town and Riyad Mahrez from French second division club Le Havre. Wenger predicted that more players would emerge from lower down the pyramid in future.
“The hunger index is sometimes built by the difficulty of realising your dream,” he said.
“Sometimes when you start at 18 years of age on the red carpet, it can make you think ‘that is normal, that is easy’. And I tell you, there will be more and more [good players] down there. The Premier League will have more and more foreign players, good players will go down and down and down, and there you will find good players.”
