The Red Devils are determined to land the former Chelsea manager after Manchester City confirmed that the Catalan would be taking over at the Etihad this summer
Manchester United are desperate to appoint Jose Mourinho as their new manager after Manchester City confirmed their capture of Pep Guardiola on Monday, according to the Daily Star.
City announced that the Catalan would replace Manuel Pellegrini at the end of the season on transfer deadline day, with United said to be shocked by the news.
As a result, executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has decided to step up his bid to lure Mourinho to Old Trafford, having decided to part ways with Louis van Gaal this summer.
Woodward is understood to believe Mourinho is the only manager who can go toe-to-toe with Guardiola, and the Portuguese has made it clear that he wants to take on the challenge.
