Manchester United have already asked Bayern Munich about Renato Sanches’ release clause, according to the Daily Record.
United were one of the frontrunners to sign the 18-year-old earlier this year but eventually lost out to Bayern Munich, who offered €45 million (£37.7m) to Benfica.
But Jose Mourinho and United have been so impressed with Sanches’ displays for Portugal at Euro 2016 that they are keen to learn about the buyout clause in his Bayern contract.
Mourinho, who is also pursuing Paul Pogba, is frustrated that United passed up the chance to sign Sanches before Bayern moved in.
