The Senate in Nigeria has begun the process of considering the petroleum Industry Bill (PIB).
The Chairman Senate Committee on Petroleum Upstream, Senator Donald Alasoadura, introduced the PIB on the floor of the Senate on Wednesday at plenary.
Previous assemblies were unable to pass the controversial bill, however Senate President Bukola Saraki has assured Nigerians that passing the PIB was one of the major priorities of the Eight Assembly.
Senator Saraki had in November 2015 told Channels Television that the PIB would be broken down into different segments and handled differently to ensure that the issues identified in the bill were addressed.
