Nigerian Stars Simi & Adekunle Gold Face Old Tweet Storm

Nigerian music power couple, Simi and Adekunle Gold, are currently facing intense social media scrutiny as several of their old, "unsavoury" tweets from 2012 have resurfaced, sparking widespread controversy.

The controversy began when Ms Simi recently took to X (formerly Twitter) to express strong views on rapists, advocating for them to be "castrated and burnt alive." Her impassioned comments followed public outrage over allegations made by TikToker Mirabel, who claimed she had been sexually assaulted in her own home.

However, Ms Simi soon encountered significant backlash after unverified reports circulated, suggesting Mirabel had retracted her initial story and allegedly admitted her rape report was false. Many of Ms Simi's critics accused her of remaining silent regarding these unconfirmed retractions, causing the debate to degenerate into days of online trolling. Subsequently, her husband, Adekunle Gold, was also drawn into the social media storm.

Old Tweets Resurface

This escalating situation led to a thorough examination of the couple's past tweets, with several old posts from 2012 resurfacing on Sunday, 22nd February 2026. These unearthed tweets have added further twists to an already contentious situation.

In one tweet from 2012, Ms Simi reportedly wrote about a four-year-old having a crush on her and "acting like he wana loc lip" with her. Another post from the same period appeared to show Ms Simi joking about the same child "trying to put hand inside my shet (sic)."

Adekunle Gold's own past tweets also came under fire. In 2012, he posted about not liking girls who sit with their legs closed, and separately expressed a preference for girls who are "very vulnerable and defenceless."
