Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino met with Sir Alex Ferguson in a secret meeting in London on Tuesday.
The pair had lunch together at Scott's restaurant in Mayfair, with Pochettino’s assistant, Jesus Perez, also in attendance.
The meeting has sparked fresh rumours that United could move for the Argentine this summer should Louis van Gaal leave Old Trafford, although reports have also claimed that Spurs were fully aware of the arrangement.
At the end of April, Pochettino confirmed that he had reached a verbal agreement with Tottenham over a new five-year contract that would keep him at White Hart Lane until 2021.
Pochettino joined Spurs from Southampton in May 2014 and is one game away from securing second place in the Premier League this season.
It has also been claimed that Ferguson is an admirer of Pochettino. David Lammy, MP for Tottenham, told The Spurs Show podcast in February: “I’m going to let you into a secret. About six weeks ago, I sat next to Sir Alex Ferguson at a dinner in support of grassroots football abroad.
“He said to me ‘I think you guys have got the best manager in the Premier League.’” - Goal
