The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, had planned to discuss Somaliland's recognition with the US president. However, reports from the New York Post indicated Trump's lack of interest in acknowledging the Muslim-majority state, quoting him as asking, "Does anyone know what Somaliland is, really?" The president suggested that his discussions with Netanyahu would primarily focus on the situation in the Gaza Strip. While Somaliland maintains strong relations with neighboring Ethiopia and certain Arab nations, including the UAE, other regional countries like Egypt and Turkey oppose its independence. Congressman Scott Perry, a notable Trump loyalist, has been a vocal proponent for Somaliland's recognition in the US Congress.
