The last iteration of Suzuki’s GSX series, the GSX-R1000, has been with us since 2001 albeit it had several variants and updates over the years.

Nonetheless, the motorcycle’s reign in the line-up is not over, as the Japanese company will take center stage at this year’s MCN London Motorcycle Show with the new GSX-R1000 concept model. Mind you, “the king of sportbikes” – in Suzuki’s own words – was first unveiled at EICMA in Milan.

Of course, even though it comes with the term “concept” in its name, the bike previews the full-stable machinery for 2016 – which will be displayed at the show in a mixture of the manufacturer’s Moto GP livery and the commemorative 30th anniversary paint scheme.

Mechanically, the Gixxer’s 999cc inline-four, flat 180-degree crankshaft engine now has centrifugal variable valve timing, allowing the camshafts to operate at different profiles – a solution which offers torque at low revs, and top-end grunt (specific for a superbike) as it accelerates through the rev-band. Moreover, it makes the jump to electronically controlled throttle bodies, replacing the mechanical-cable setup.

Along with the GSX family, Suzuki will also display – among other bikes in its like-up – the new SV650, the retro-inspired VanVan 200, and the original GSX-R750 and XR69 race machines.
