Guus Hiddink has weighed in on John Terry's future, stating the Chelsea captain is desperate to return to first-team action as his future at the top level of football hangs in the balance.
Terry could leave at the end of the season after 20 years with the Blues as the Stamford Bridge side continue to stall over offering the 35-year-old a new contract and the Dutch boss feels that the skipper still has the desire to compete.
“He was almost unapproachable when he had this set back which shows a big desire to play,” Hiddink told reporters.
“He likes to perform and has the attitude to perform. The attitude is there, you see it in training sessions.”
Having seen Terry struggle with Achilles and hamstring issues since February, Hiddink also pinned some of the blame for Chelsea's problems on a lack of options at centre-back.
“We had a lack of players in central defence when we didn't get through in the FA Cup and the Champions League. Zouma had fallen away and John [was out] so we had to reshuffle and that made us insecure.”
Though Terry will be fit to face Tottenham, the captain will face competition for a starting berth, with Branislav Ivanovic and Gary Cahill also available for selection.
