A commercial bus driver was crushed to death yesterday at Ibusa Junction, Asaba, the Delta State capital.
The driver was saved by policemen from the hands of angry mob who almost lynched him.
It was learnt that the incident occurred when the bus driver was tying some loads to the trunk of his 14-seater Hiace bus.
The rope reportedly broke and the driver fell down.
He was then crushed by a tipper said to be conveying sand.
An eyewitness said: “The driver had finished loading his bus with passengers. He was tying a rope to the trunk of the bus when the rope broke. He fell down onto the road and the tipper crushed him.”
After the incidence, it was gathered, the tipper driver sped off. But other drivers pursued him with a bus on Direct Labour Agency (DLA) Road, a few kilometres from the scene of the accident.
He was brought back by a mob.
The driver, however, denied that he attempted to escape. He said he was only looking for a parking space.
