The Police have arrested two more suspects for the assassination of Igwe Peter Onuoha, the Traditional Ruler of Nkerefi town in Nkanu East Local Government Area of the State.
A prime suspect, Sunday Edwin Agballa had earlier been arrested on July 31, 2015. The two additional suspects were arrested at Nara and Iheokwuru, two neighbouring communities to Nkerefi on August 2 and August 3 respectively.
Spokesman for Enugu State Police Command, Ebere Amaraizu who confirmed the arrests in a statement on Wednesday, stated that the two new suspects who both hail from Nkerefi, gave their names as Ifeanyi Eze (alias Nwanwanyi Agballa) and Chinedu Ogbuife (alias Osama Bin Ladin).
Amaraizu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) disclosed that the two suspects were already helping the police in their full scale investigation into the gruesome assassination of Igwe Onuoha and three other natives of Nkerefi town.
It would be recalled that Igwe Onuoha and three others, a couple, Ejike Udeme Uzor and Evelyn Udeme Uzor and one Daniel Ogbu (Alias Choco), were murdered on Saturday July 11 this year when gunmen invaded the community.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Enugu Police Command, said, “Ogbuife Chinedu alias Osama Bin Ladin said he is a carpenter but has a bunk for the consumption of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp as well as the type known as monkey tail whereas Ifeanyichukwu Eze also claimed to be an upholstery maker but usually visits the bunk” Amaraizu stated.
Earlier reports have it that one of the prime suspects, Sunday Agbala Edwin, was arrested at Ebu village in Illah, Oshili Local Government Area of Delta State, last Thursday by operatives of Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department.
Amaraizu said the suspect alleged that the monarch was violating human rights by killing people and throwing them into the river and also collecting peoples land by force in the community and if they opposed him, he would deal them. The police spokesman said the suspects confessed that they organised themselves and visited the royal father as well as those supporting him on that day.The suspect further confessed that two shots were fired on that day but not by him as he only went there with cutlass although and that he never knew that it would have resulted into this kind of situation.
The suspect was truly sorry about the whole thing and also regretted the act, while he is helping the operatives in the full scale investigations with a view to unmasking the remaining members of the gang, Amaraizu added.
