Detectives investigating the killing of a Nigerian in the United Kingdom and the attempted murder of his teenage friend are appealing for fresh information five years on, promising £20,000 reward, a statement issued by the UK Metropolitan Police stated yesterday.

The 16-year-old Nigerian, Samuel Adelagun, and his 15-year-old friend were attacked as they walked along Chesterton Road in Plaistow, E13, on Saturday, October 23, 2010.

The Met said, “Officers will be returning to Plaistow (the scene of the crime) to encourage anyone with new information about the incident to come forward. In addition to this latest appeal the Met is now offering a £20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and successful prosecution of the person or people responsible for Samuel’s death.

“The shooting happened on a patch of parkland at the junction of Chesterton Road and Upper Road. Samuel, who lived in Stratford, was pronounced dead at the scene. A post mortem examination gave the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the chest. A 15-year-old boy found suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen was taken to hospital and went on to make a full recovery.”.

The UK police believed, according to the statement, that four friends aged 15 and 16 years old, were walking along Upper Road, E13, when two gunmen appeared behind them and fired about four shots.

Samuel and his friend were both hit. The youths managed to disperse and re-group outside a house in Chesterton Road where they sought help. The suspects were stated to be dressed in black with balaclavas.
