It was Edinson Cavani's night as the Paris Saint-Germain striker outshone both teammate Luis Suarez and Portugal ace Cristiano Ronaldo to deliver a match winning performance.

With Uruguay putting two goals past the Portuguese defence to advance to the quarter final stage of the 2018 World Cup, here's how players from both sides rated:

8. Uruguay - Goalkeeper & Defenders

Fernando Muslera 7/10 Did concede a goal, but there was little he could have done against Pepe's header. Answered all other questions asked of him aside of that.

Jose Gimenez 7/10 Defended well, as did all of Uruguay's defenders. His reading of the game was also excellent.

Diego Godin 7/10 Solid at the back as we've come to expect.

Martin Caceres 8/10 Excellent both in defence and attack, kept out most of Portugal's attacks on the left.

Diego Laxalt 7/10 Gave up possession a few times but also worked very hard.

7. Uruguay - Midfielders

Lucas Torreira 6.5/10 Showed why he's become a target for Arsenal. Handled William Carvalho well.

Nahitan Nandez 7/10 Worked hard in midfield and helped Cavani up front as he was isolated on occasion.

Matias Vecino 7/10 Looked like he left everything out on the pitch for his side and handled the pressure from Portugal with great energy.

Rodrigo Bentancur 6/10 Showed signs of class, yet was mostly ineffective in attack.

6. Uruguay - Forwards

Luis Suarez 8/10 Kept Portugal's defence on its toes with constant movement and pressure, also provided the assist for Cavani's first goal.

Edinson Cavani 9/10: The difference maker on the night, the Paris Saint-Germain star scored both goals for his country.

5. Uruguay - Substitutes

Christian Rodriguez 6/10 Showed good intent after coming on in the second half.

Christhian Stuani 6/10 Replaced an injured Cavani and did well to keep Portugal's defenders on their toes.

Carlos Sanchez N/A Not on long enough to warrant a fair rating.

4. Portugal - Goalkeeper & Defenders

Rui Patricio 6.5/10 Not much he could have done about Cavani's goals and nearly had an impact after going up for a stoppage-time corner.

Ricardo Perreira 6/10 Looked better going forward than he did defending.

Pepe 7/10 Scored the equaliser for Portugal but could have done better for Cavani's second.

Jose Fonte 5/10 Provided a threat on set pieces but couldn't deal with Suarez and Cavani's movement and skill.

Raphael Guerreiro 6/10 Could have probably done better against Cavani for the first and had issues going forward as well.

3. Portugal - Midfielders

Bernardo Silva 7/10 Very energetic and enjoyed loads of possession on the right but couldn't find that final ball.

Adrien Silva 6/10 Left a lot to be desired in midfield and was replaced in the second half.

William Carvalho 6/10 Solid on the ball but his positioning left Portugal vulnerable at times.

Joao Mario 6.5/10 Was very helpful in the attack but also struggled with that final ball.

2. Portugal - Forwards

Goncalo Guedes 5/10 Very poor in attack and looked to be overtaken by nerves in a match of such magnitude.

Cristiano Ronaldo 6/10 Could not come up with the goods this time as Uruguay's defence was simply too solid to break down.

1. Portugal - Substitutes

Ricardo Quaresma 6.5/10 Showed lots of ambition after coming on in the second half. Could have probably made a difference if he'd started.

Andre Silva 5/10 Hardly made a difference after coming on.

Manuel Fernandes 6/10: Got himself a few shots after his introduction and looked very keen todraw his side level.
