The striker, who now plays alongside the Portuguese at Fenerbahce, wanted to name his current team-mate... but quickly got the cold shoulder in an awkward exchange

Robin van Persie and Nani have revealed the best Manchester United players they played with... and the conversation got a little bit awkward.

The pair, who currently ply their trade at Fenerbahce, were taking part in a question-and-answer session on the Europa League Facebook page and talked about their time at Old Trafford and working with Sir Alex Ferguson.

Nani spent eight years with United, including a one-year loan spell at Sporting, winning the Premier League four times and the Champions League once, while Van Persie's three-year stay garnered one Premier League winners' medal.

So when asked by fans who the best players they played alongside at United were, Van Persie attempted to pay his Fenerbahce team-mate a complement... but Nani was not having any of it.

"Let's choose each other, Nani! Nani, Robin!" the striker responded. However, Nani replied: "[There were] so many good players. Ronaldo, the best player in the world right now.

"But at that time Scholesy [Paul Scholes] was great. I learned a lot from him in training. There were others, too, but he was the highlight during that time."

Taking Nani's cue, Van Persie ditched his plans for a magnanimous response then plumped for Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.

He added: "I played with Scholes for one year, but he was injured for a couple of months. Even in training you could tell that players like Scholes, Giggs ... I really enjoyed playing with them.

"They are players with their own style in their own position. I also really enjoyed watching Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand. It's difficult to point out one, two or even three."
