The Selecao boss was impressed with the midfielder's showing in the Champions League victory over Roma, insisting he was fulfilling a vital role for the team
Brazil coach Dunga has praised the role played by Casemiro in Real Madrid’s Champions League victory over Roma on Tuesday, insisting “somebody needs to carry the piano” for the Liga giants.
Currently in Europe ahead of Brazil’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Paraguay, Selecao Dunga boss was at the Bernabeu to see los Blancos secure a 4-0 aggregate victory over Roma and book their place in the last 16.
“Casemiro was good. Someone has to carry the piano for Real Madrid,” Dunga told Esporte Interativo.
“In European football especially, the fans like a player who performs a function within the team. Real Madrid have so many players who like playing with the ball at their feet, so someone has to steal that ball, protect the defence.”
The holding midfielder has made four appearances for Brazil since Dunga’s July 2014 appointment and was a part of the squad for Copa America 2015, but has not been called up since.
"Casemiro worked with us at Copa America, he is one of the players that we are watching,” Dunga added.
“We are happy with to have a Brazilian getting recognition, and his is a job that often is not very appreciated by the fans - but here it is one that is being valued."
