With the Europa League back this week, take a look at the three English sides remaining in the competition who will be gunning for European glory
Tottenham Hotspur have a special place in Europa League history, having lifted the inaugural UEFA Cup in 1972. Mauricio Pochettino’s side have an old score to settle after being knocked out of the tournament by Fiorentina last season, and are aiming to become the first English team in the competition’s history to win in Florence. Manchester United are missing only the UEFA Europa League to complete an historic clean sweep of Europe’s most prestigious club competitions. The 20-time Premier League champions are England’s most successful club and have lost just once in six outings against Danish opposition. Liverpool have won the UEFA Cup on three previous occasions, their last triumph arriving in 2001 following a thrilling 5-4 victory over Deportivo Alaves. With 11 major European trophies, the Reds are the most successful English team in UEFA club competition history.
