Police in Enugu State said on Sunday that they are battling to stem the new wave of kidnapping in the State, especially Nsukka axis.
Spokesman of Enugu State Police Command, Ebere Amaraizu stated this while responding to inquiries on recent cases of kidnapping in Nsukka.
Among the victims of the kidnappers were Professor James Adichie, the father of award winning writer, Chimamanda Adichie and former Enugu State Head of Service, Nze Dennis Eze.
Although, both Adichie and Eze have regained their freedom from the kidnappers, spokesman of the State Police Command, Ebere Amaraizu told journalists at the weekend that the Command was battling to stem the tide.
An associate of Prof. Adichie who also resides at Nsukka but who did not want his name mentioned said on Sunday that they heard the hoodlums went for him because of his daughter.
He, however, said he does not know how much the family paid as ransom.
In the case of the former Head of Service, it was learnt that he was kidnapped along the now very vulnerable new Opi Nsukka- Ugwuogo Nike- Enugu Road constructed by the administration of Governor Sullivan Chime.
He regained his freedom a few days ago and had to go down to his hometown in Igbo-Eze North LGA to reunite with his father and other family members who had been apprehensive all through his period in captivity in the past week.
Other victims of kidnappers in Nsukka include a foreign based business mogul and a Hotelier, both from Igbo-Eze North LGA of the State.
