Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo.
Trailing the opinion of the vice president, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has received a knock by the Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE), showing their discontent over his view on the nation’s restructuring.
Secretary-General of YCE, Dr. Kunle Olajide, said although Osinbajo has over time proven to be a good representative of the Yoruba, he erred on his position on the demand for restructuring by Nigerians.
He spoke after his son, Adegoke, was blessed by the leaders of the All Progressives Congress as an aspirant for the Efon constituency in the Ekiti State House of Assembly.
Osinbajo had at a town hall meeting in Minnesota, the United States of America, stated that the problem of Nigeria was not geographical restructuring but prudent management of national resources and adequate provision of its people.
“Problem with our country is not a matter of restructuring… and we must not allow ourselves to be drawn into the argument that our problems stem from some geographical restructuring,” he had said.
But reacting, Olajide noted that geographical restructuring was one of the leading challenges facing the nation, noting the diverse cultural and heterogeneous factor had put the nation at the point of standstill.
“He (Osinbajo) missed it on the issue of restructuring. The Federal Government must listen to wise counsel on the need for restructuring in the country.
“Restructuring is very fundamental to the problems of Nigeria for obvious reasons. This is a heterogeneous country made of different nations, tribes, histories and cultures and consequently different priorities. Our concept of development differs from one part of the country to another. If we must live together in peace, each of the nation’s tribes must itemise their priorities as regards their cultures, histories, and beliefs.” He said,
However, the council said it was proud of Osinbajo for performing most creditably in office by demonstrating good leadership, especially, on few occasions that the President was not around.
