Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has articulated that the development of a 95-kilometre road network within the Tsafe Local Government Area is set to significantly enhance security operations, streamline the movement of commodities, and stimulate economic activity across the region.

His Excellency made these remarks on Sunday during the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of critical roads connecting communities such as 'Yandoton Daji, Cediya, Doka, 'Yan Waren Daji, Hayin Alhaji Bedi, Unguwar Joji, and 'Yankuzo to Tsafe, a project that also includes the construction of five vital bridges.

Project Phasing and Contractors

This substantial infrastructure undertaking is structured into two distinct phases, with the initial phase spanning 47 kilometres and the subsequent phase encompassing 48 kilometres. SKY Construction Company has been entrusted with the execution of the first phase, whilst Setraco Construction Company Limited is responsible for delivering the second phase of the development.

Boosting Agriculture and Security

Addressing attendees at the ceremony, Governor Lawal emphasised the profound importance of this project, noting its role in establishing crucial links between predominantly agricultural communities, which are pivotal contributors to the state’s economy. The new road, he further explained, would dramatically enhance the mobility of security agencies, thereby improving their capacity to respond effectively to threats and attacks within the vicinity.

β€œReconstructing this road will enhance the movement of goods and the mobility of security agencies, thereby improving operational capacity and response to threats or attacks,”

he reiterated.

Broader Infrastructure Renewal Programme

According to the Governor, this development forms an integral component of his administration’s overarching infrastructure renewal programme, which is specifically designed to re-establish connections between communities and alleviate the persistent infrastructure deficiencies prevalent throughout the state. He enumerated other concurrent projects, including the Gusau-Magami-Dansadau Road, the Zurmi-Rukudawa Road, and the Mallamawa-Bukkuyum Road, which features a spur extending to Masamar Mudi.

Governor Lawal underscored that robust road networks are indispensable for safe transportation, the efficient conveyance of goods, and fostering economic expansion. He added that the Tsafe project is anticipated to galvanise economic activities and significantly uplift the quality of life for local residents.

β€œWe fully comprehend the urgency dictated by the challenging circumstances within these communities, and we are resolutely committed to stringent adherence to timelines to ensure its prompt completion,”

he affirmed.

Quality and Accountability

The Governor issued explicit directives to the state Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, mandating effective supervision, rigorous quality assurance, and unyielding compliance with approved engineering standards for the entire duration of the project. Furthermore, he issued a stern caution to all contractors involved in government projects, emphasising the paramount importance of delivering value for money and ensuring superior quality workmanship.

β€œContractors undertaking government projects must unequivocally understand that Zamfara State demands value for money, exemplary craftsmanship, and infrastructure designed to endure the test of time,”

Governor Lawal asserted.

Future Prospects

He conveyed his optimism that this new road infrastructure would bolster security provisions, enhance transportation efficiencies, and cultivate greater integration among the various communities situated within Tsafe and its surrounding areas.
