The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), in collaboration with the Zamfara State Teachers Service Board (TSB), has initiated a crucial compliance monitoring exercise focusing on teacher registration and licensing throughout Zamfara State. This concerted effort seeks to uphold and enhance professional standards within the education sector.
Flag-off and Sensitisation
The exercise officially commenced at Government Day Secondary School, Millennium Quarters, located in Gusau. Officials present at the launch engaged with teachers, providing vital sensitisation on the profound importance of professional registration and strict adherence to the requirements stipulated by the TRCN.
During the event, Hajiya Ummu Yusuf Anka, the esteemed Chairperson of the Zamfara State Teachers Service Board, underscored that professionalism is absolutely critical for elevating the quality of education delivered across the state. She articulated that a workforce of well-trained, suitably qualified, and professionally regulated teachers is indispensable for achieving sustained improvements within the education sector.
In a statement released and signed by Abubakar Muhammad Tukur, the boardβs Information Officer, Anka reiterated the state governmentβs unwavering commitment to fortifying the education system. Furthermore, she emphasised the creation of a conducive environment that empowers teachers to make meaningful contributions to human capital development. She specifically urged all teachers who have not yet registered with the TRCN to seize this ongoing exercise as an opportunity to finalise their registration and secure the necessary licensing.
Anka characterised professional registration as a pivotal step towards reinforcing accountability, fostering professionalism, and upholding rigorous standards within the teaching profession.
Benefits of Professional Registration
Adding to the discourse, Nura Shiitu Moriki, the TRCN state coordinator, highlighted the myriad benefits that accrue from registering with the council. He explained that such registration bestows professional recognition upon teachers, which is directly relevant to their career progression, opportunities for promotion, and access to various other professional advancements.
Deployment of Monitoring Teams
Following the official flag-off ceremony, three distinct monitoring teams were strategically deployed. These teams are tasked with conducting further sensitisation efforts and compliance monitoring in selected schools spread across the stateβs three senatorial zones.
The team assigned to the Central Senatorial Zone, under the direct leadership of Chairperson Anka, conducted visits to various primary and secondary schools within Gusau. Here, teachers were thoroughly sensitised regarding professional registration, the acquisition of licensing, and their obligation to comply with the established TRCN regulations.
Future Expectations
It is anticipated that this exercise will significantly strengthen the collaborative relationship between the TSB and TRCN. Moreover, it is poised to actively promote professionalism, foster accountability, and ensure consistent adherence to regulatory standards among all teachers operating within Zamfara State. The Teachers Service Board once again implored teachers who have yet to complete their TRCN registration and licensing to utilise this initiative to regularise their professional status without delay.
