The midfielder has been linked with a number of clubs in recent months, including Arsenal, but has now penned an extension with a buy-out clause of €45 million
Portugal midfielder William Carvalho has signed a contract extension at Sporting, extending his stay at the club until the end of the 2019-20 season.
Carvalho has been continually linked with a move to the Premier League, with Arsenal understood to be interested in acquiring his signature in the January transfer window.
The Gunners instead signed Mohamed Elneny from FC Basel, however, and Carvalho has now committed his future to the Portuguese giants, with his new deal including a buy-out clause of €45 million (£35.1m).
Carvalho, who is represented by high-profile agent Jorge Mendes, has 15 international caps. He has featured 22 times in all competitions for Sporting this season, scoring twice, after completing his recovery from a broken tibia during the opening weeks of the campaign.
