The Mexico international was on the score sheet again, but had to be withdrawn with an injury in the second half.
Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez scored again for Bayer Leverkusen, but there will be concerns about his health as he was taken off injured with his side training 2-1 in a DFB-Pokal match against Werder Bremen.
Hernandez scored a penalty kick in the 22nd minute, giving his team an early 1-0 lead in the German cup quarterfinal match. It was the 22nd goal of the season in 26 appearances in all competitions for Hernandez.
Bremen would come back in the match at BayArena, and scored twice before halftime to take a the lead. Wendell's 41st-minute red card made life even harder on Leverkusen as it looked to claw back into the game.
Hernandez would add to the problems after he had to be taken off in the 57th minute with what appeared to be a back injury, giving Leverkusen a slight cause for concern moving forward.
Florian Grillitsch tacked on a third goal for Bremen as the club cruised to a 3-1 win, bouncing Hernandez and Leverkusen from the competition.
Leverkusen is back in action on Saturday as it travels to Darmstadt in a Bundesliga match.
