Access to Internet services provided in most parts of Enugu State by one of the biggest cyber cafes and business firms in the city, the Logon
Nigeria Limited was halted yesterday when operatives of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), sealed off the premises of the firm.
Logon was accused of illegal provision of Internet services. NCC operatives who stormed the multi-million naira cybercafé in the company of security agents, also confiscated equipment and facilities used by the company to transmit services to other internet users.
The commission also placed other Internet providers on surveillance, a development that disrupted services in some business centers that relies on the company for their services.
Speaking to journalists after sealing off the Company located at Chime
Avenue, New Haven, Enugu, the NCC Head of Enforcement, Salisu Abdu, accompanied by South-East Zonal Head of the commission, stated the commission had in three written letters invited the company to come and regularize its operation.
Abdu explained that NCC applied its power, because Logon was illegally providing Internet services.
“We have the power to monitor compliance with our license terms and conditions, and in line with such powers, we carried monitoring exercise in Enugu sometimes in 2015 and we found out that some companies are providing internet services without license, which among them is LOGONNIGERIA Ltd; so, we visited it today in accordance with our enforcement processes.
