Newcastle United have been told by Feyenoord to up their offer for striker Nicolai Jorgensen by 6pm tonight or face negotiations breaking down.

As ChronicleLive reported on Saturday , the Magpies’ MD Lee Charnley has been given a deadline of tonight to match the Dutch club’s asking price for the Danish striker. The deadline has now been reported by Dutch media outlet De Telegraaf.

Jorgensen started yesterday in Feyenoord’s 3-1 victory over Den Haag and face PSV in the quarter final of the cup on Wednesday, prompting a tough line from the club to get any deal sorted before that clash.

β€œFeyenoord has taken a harder stance towards Newcastle United, which has been trying to buy Nicolai Jorgensen for a week,” reports De Telegraaf. β€œThe English Premier League club has received a deadline for tonight from Feyenoord to put millions more on the table for the Danish striker.

β€œIf Newcastle , which negotiates via director Lee Charnley , does not come up early in the evening with a higher offer, the Rotterdam-based party immediately stops the official negotiations. Feyenoord only wants to do business if there is a β€˜disproportionate’ amount on the table.”

It is understood that United have already had two bids for Jorgensen knocked back with the last somewhere in the region of Β£15 million.

When asked about transfers after the defeat to Chelsea, Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez said: β€œβ€œUntil January 31, I have to give my confidence that the club will sign someone. At least we will try to do something.”

United have also been linked to Viktoria Plzen’s Michael Krmencik and Hull City’s Jarrod Bowen but club sources have played both names down.
