Tinubu Appoints Taiwo Oyedele as Finance Minister

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially appointed Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of State for Finance, replacing Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite. This significant cabinet reshuffle was announced by Bayo Onanuga, the President's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.

Mr Oyedele’s nomination has been formally conveyed to the Senate for confirmation in a letter addressed to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio. The appointment comes as part of ongoing adjustments within the President's administration.

Cabinet Reshuffle Details

As part of these changes, Dr Uzoka-Anite will transition to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning, where she will serve as Minister of State. This marks her third portfolio within the current government, highlighting a strategic reallocation of responsibilities.

Profile of the New Minister

Taiwo Oyedele, a distinguished economist, accountant, and public policy expert, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Hailing from Ikaram, Akoko, Ondo State, the 50-year-old was previously the chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms. In this capacity, he was instrumental in overhauling Nigeria’s tax system.

Mr Oyedele's extensive academic background includes a Higher National Diploma (HND) in accountancy and finance from Yaba College of Technology, followed by a BSc in applied accounting from Oxford Brookes University. He has also completed several executive education programmes at prestigious institutions such as the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Harvard Kennedy School.

Before his appointment, Oyedele dedicated 22 years of his professional career to PwC, where he joined in 2001. He steadily rose through the ranks to become the Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader. Furthermore, he holds a professorship at Babcock University in Ogun State and serves as a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School, underlining his expertise in both academic and practical spheres.
