The 55-year-old hailed the Bayern Munich head coach for his ability to get the very best out of his players and also distanced himself from reports he could take over at Chelsea
"My most important exercise has to do with changing history. The elite does not attract me that much, I want to beat the elite from somewhere else."
The 55-year-old guided Chile to Copa America glory in 2015, a feat that saw him nominated for the World Coach of the Year award, and he has given an insight into what helped spur La Roja to success in the tournament.
"Blocking out everything around us and explaining there was not such a great need for that team to win the Copa [was the key reason to winning Copa America on home soil]," he explained.
"Because Chile hadn't won anything in 100 years, putting that pressure on us was ridiculous and we were going to suffer that. From there the team was built with a way of playing as an obligation, not with the sole aim of winning the tournament because that would have been suicide.
"I never pictured myself going to Chile [to manage the national team]. Football took me to those places and instead of dismissing them I planned to colonise them. It has all been a long apprenticeship, and I have to keep learning now."
